Fishing

In addition to surfing and the Great Ocean Road, the Surf Coast is almost as famous for its fishing. You can drop a line at Lorne pier to catch mullet, trevally or garfish, or head offshore from Anglesea to the Ingoldsby Reef, which is home to whiting and snapper closer to shore and salmon, kingfish and pike further out. There are plenty of nooks and crannies along the coastline where you can rock fish or head out in a tinny to catch whiting, flathead, calamari and salmon. The Painkalac River in Aireys Inlet is a popular local fishing venue, with bream generally found on the river bends in quieter locations, and salmon, roughies and perch nearer the river mouth. Moggs Creek and Eastern View are popular beach fishing locations, while mullet and salmon can be caught at the Moggs Creek inlet, as well as other small inlets along the coast.

Scuttlebutt Scuba and Fishing Charters runs group day trips in the waters off the Surf Coast.
