Golf

The Surf Coast is home to an intriguing selection of golf courses, including the Anglesea Golf Club, an undulating public course with a 6028 meter, par 73 layout set in native bushland. Visitors will be pleasantly surprised to find a resident population of around 300 Eastern Grey kangaroos good naturedly grazing away, assisting grounds staff to keep the course in good order. The Lorne Golf Club is set in the hills behind the town and is a semi-private course with limited access for public players. You will need to contact the course for further information.

For something off the beaten track, the Winchelsea Golf Club comprises nine holes, with a par 3 that enjoys local notoriety as the “Quarry” hole because it sits at the bottom of a disused bluestone quarry.

At the other end of the scale, The Sands Torquay is an exclusive members-only course designed by Australian golfer, Stuart Appleby. The course embraces its natural coastal environment, with members and guests able to enjoy a range of facilities, including a pro shop, practice facilities, locker and change rooms, a restaurant and bar, function areas and health club with a gymnasium, 25 meter indoor lap pool and tennis courts.
